Getting this visa happened to coincide with a period of layoffs at my company. Being on a work visa during such an uncertain time was incredibly stressful. I can honestly say that when I received my approval from Tech Nation, it felt like a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders — the sense of relief was immense.
From a career perspective, the change has been transformative. I now have a far wider range of opportunities, whereas before I was sometimes turned down because of sponsorship requirements. Now, the entire job market is open to me.
I moved to the UK on a work visa. Overall, I didn’t have an extensive amount of experience before relocating. Even though I’m still working for the same company that sponsored my move, I can now take on greater risks without worrying that losing my job would also mean losing my right to stay in the country.
The biggest advantage is that it separates your right to live in the UK from your employment status — and that’s a huge benefit.
It also gives your CV a nice boost: having “Global Talent” status can sometimes help your application stand out and avoid being filtered out early in the hiring process.
On top of that, with the upcoming changes to UK immigration rules, there’s a good chance that Global Talent Visa holders will continue to have a shorter route to ILR (Indefinite Leave to Remain).
From the very beginning, we focused mainly on strengthening my public profile. I already had a solid professional background, even if not an extensive one, so that part required less attention.
I chose to work with professionals because I’m used to collaborating with experts, and it didn’t seem efficient to handle every detail on my own. Getting professional support helped simplify the process and made much better use of my time and energy.
Overall, I’m happy with the outcome, although the process took longer than I initially expected — not always through my own fault.
First of all — and not purely from a professional perspective — my main goal is to obtain ILR and eventually British citizenship.
In terms of my career, I plan to keep growing and developing in my field. I also have several startup ideas that I’d like to bring to life. Not being tied to a single employer is a huge advantage, as it makes pursuing those goals much easier.
Always gather feedback and keep a record of every activity related to your career and public profile — it will make the process much smoother and can significantly shorten the time from start to finish.
